From Perpignan airport or train station it is easy to get to the house by public transport. There are also good rail and bus connections to many of the attractions round about.
From the costal plains to the Pyrenees the landscape has beautiful scenery and natural phenomena. There are lush gorges, ancient deciduous woodland, stalactite filled caves, craggy peaks and spectacular rock formations.
This landscape offers numerous opportunities for walking, hiking, riding, cycling, climbing, caving and bird watching.
In the mountains there are wild animal parks to visit. Serious climbers can attempt the Canigou at 2784 m. The easier way to reach the peak is off-roading in a 4x4.
The nearest large ski resort is Font Romeu, 45 km from the house. It is suitable for families and all equipment can be hired in the town at good rates.
Other nearby resorts are Les Angles, Formigueres and Err. They offer Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, and are snowboard-friendly.
There are lots of water-based activities in the Conflent. Prades has a good outdoor swimming pool open in the summer moths 5 minutes walk from the house. You can also swim, fish and windsurf in nearby lakes and rivers.
The Tet valley has several centres for white water rafting, canyoning and canoeing.
A great feature of the area is the number of thermal springs. High up the mountain valley, the outdoor thermal baths of St Thomas-les-Bains are worth a visit.
